Amazon.com Review
A large, handsome work surface, this durable potter's table from American Woods is a great alternative to the picnic table or hunching over the deck. Sturdy and weather-resistant, the piece is made from Western red cedar preserved with clear oil. The work surface is waterproof, and American Woods uses rust-resistant hardware to hold the unit together. A trellis back has a stable and attractive notched construction, while a large lower shelf and tidy drawer provide additional storage space for buckets, bags of soil, and bonsai scissors. A slide-out tray on the right-hand side offers extra work surface. The table measures 42-1/2 by 21-3/4 by 58-1/2 inches. It requires some basic assembly, but comes with all necessary hardware. --Emily Bedard

Amazon.com Review
Beautifully made of glowing western red cedar, this big work table is ideal for potting plants outdoors or indoors. The golden brown wood with its characteristic color variations is naturally weather resistant, and the wood is further preserved with a clear oil sealant. As a work space, the table provides plenty of flexibility. There are shelves rising in the rear for pots; a large shelf underneath the table surface; a removable plastic basin sunk below the surface, with a wood cover for the basin to maximize table space; a drawer for tools; and a drop-leaf at one end for additional space. The table measures 60 inches wide with the drop-leaf extended and 44 inches wide with the leaf dropped; 55 inches high including rear shelves; and 22 inches deep. Employing mortise-and-tenon joinery, it's sturdy and built to last. Assembly requires just a Phillips screwdriver, with all hardware (coated to resist rust) included, along with illustrated assembly instructions. The table carries a 90-day warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

4 out of 5 stars killer deal, but inconsistent quality   January 18, 2005

This has been the best deal I have made with Amazon. $40 shipped to my door, and arrived on 12/23/04! All parts were accounted for. Assembly was easy (screwdrivers). Table seems solid, no wobbles. I am not using the S hooks for the lattice. I didn't want to risk damaging it.

Calming down after the insane price rush, reality kicks in, and, well, I sure wouldn't pay $180 for it. (Sorry, American Wood)

While I can't speak for all of these, I can tell you that the wood quality ranged from very good to crappy.

The table top is solid and the wood is well colored and the grain is attractive.

The cross pieces are made from scrap. Mine have up to three mends in them. Some of the lattice is like this, too. Some of the wood had splintered. Yuck. Most of the joins are with a staple. The drawer has pressed cardboard bottom.

I strongly reccommend you varnish it. If you are really ambitious, it could use some more sanding. It will make it last longer and look better and maybe glue it together a little more. I also added pads to the bottom of the legs. It really made a difference. The table top looks MUCH better-very warm and glowing. Now it looks like a good quality piece.

I am keeping it in my dining room for now. The extra flat space is great. This table also has a slide-out extension on the right.

Thanks, Amazon!

5 out of 5 stars What a deal   January 3, 2005

Bought this during a Friday sale for under $40 with free shipping. Only regret is that I didn't buy at least 4 more for family members. Actually using this in my kitchen for recently purchased dehydrator and vacuum food saver. Took about three days for the heavy cedar smell to disappear. Absolutely beautiful table, easy to put together and will definately last. Not sure if I would pay the $199+ price tag - but at under $40 (and no shipping) it was one of the best purchases from Amazon during the holiday season.

5 out of 5 stars Big Surprise   December 31, 2004

I purchased two of these as Christmas gifts. I was astonished at the super fast shipping. They both arrived on 12/24 and I had ordered them only a couple of days before.

Construction was easy and the quality was great - I am so pleased with them.

3 out of 5 stars Potting Table   July 28, 2004

I was so excited when I saw this potting bench and with free shipping it was a great deal. My husband called me to tell me it had arrived and he would put it together. Well when I went outside to see the table I was disappointed because the potting bench was very different from the photo. I called customer service and they apologized and offered to send me another one. Again the wrong bench arrived. So I just kept the one they sent me originally. I like the bench I have but its definitely not the I ordered.

The item's description is not the item pictured. I ordered the potting bench after just looking at the picture. The item I got is much more like the potting bench with he lattice top and no covered tub area for potting dirt. It's nice - but be carful and check to see if it is the correct bench before putting it together. The item number and description of the item i got all match to order - it's just the wrong picture.
