Has Been a Great Razor for Me August 18, 2010 NoWhineForMe (Little Rock, AR United States) I have used this for 3 years now and it still works great. It is especially good on the curves under my jaw and my neck. I have only had to change the blade once a year. I keep mine in the shower and just shave with soap and water for a smooth shave. I recharge it in it's stand once a week. Takes less than a hour to get back to full charge.
Good shave, but does not last long August 14, 2010 J. Ray (Mentor, OH USA) I went through two of these over the last 3 years. The first one failed after one year. I received a replacement from Norelco because it was still under warrenty. The second one lasted two years. I opened it up and it appeared the motor burned out. There was a burnt smell coming from the motor.
I liked the shave but these things just do not last very long. I have a 15 yr old 885RX and it works great. Still gives a pretty good shsve. You can see the difference in quality. The 885RX had much better construction than the 8140. I just ordered a Panasonic ES7103K. The reviews indicate it is well constructed.
Don't Waste Your Money August 9, 2010 Johnny D (Austin, TX) I bought this to replace a Norelco Cool Skin shaver. I had the Cool Skin for 2 years and loved it, but the battery wore out.
The Speed XL 7800XLCC is a waste of money. There is no "Speed" in this thing at all. The motor is weak, the charge does not last for more than one shave.
It takes a half hour to shave, and the shave still sucks. The heads barely cut.
I am going to send his back to Norelco.
I don't know what I will try next. I liked the Cool Skin, but the lotion dispenser is fragile, and I'd rather have a pop up trimmer.
A++ Customer Service March 22, 2010 Steve (Woodbury, NY) I have owned this razor for about 2 years. This thing holds a charge like no other product I have ever owned. I think I must charge this razor maybe once a month or every 3 weeks - and I use it daily.
However - the other day the razor stopped taking a charge. The lights would not light up, and when they did - the "full" indicator would not light up. I figured that the "full" light may be broken... but after a couple of days the razor died and the charge light stopped lighting up.
So I called Customer Service - A recording comes on and says do you want to make a purchase or say "other." I say "other" and in 20 seconds an ONSHORE CSR answers - asks me 5 or so questions - when you bought it, how you use it, when you charge it, etc.
Then she says a new razor will be sent out to me - and Fexex labels will be included to send my old one back. WOW!! It was that easy - No Hassle, no RA#, No send it to a repair facility with a check, no refurb!
Great Razor and A+ customer service - you get what you pay for.
XL Electric shaver February 19, 2010 John Goldman (MA) This item works well. The newer version contains a "warning" when the battery is low. Other than that, its a great item, and worth the price.
