2 out of 5 stars Dude, this thing sucks!   July 26, 2008
This thing is just like a real Dell PC with a Windows OS--including the bugs, glitches, hangs, quirks, frustrations, and crashes! It's uncanny. After all the required and non-required patches (which take forever--and good luck navigating Dell's website!), it still perfoms like a steaming turd. Takes forever to boot up. Hit the power button and wait 20 seconds or so for the stupid "Dell" screen to go away. Now you enter your password, then wait 10 or 15 seconds for the numbers that you tapped to show up on screen. Now you've only got 10 or 15 seconds more to wait before the thing becomes responsive to your input. I got this thing so I could pull it out of my pocket and take notes/look something up quickly. I can do these things--just not quickly. I had a palm before this, and I never had a single issue. Hit the power button, then open your application. Instantly. Amazing. Do yourself a favor and get a palm or maybe an HP (haven't tried an HP yet, but you couldn't do worse than this turd.)

Dell even inclues their crappy over-seas tech support! Go ahead, leave them a message on their site. Will they get back to you? Who knows! They never wrote me back. Wow, did I feel important.

1 out of 5 stars Dreadful rubbish   January 17, 2008

I've owned a DELL laptop for a couple of years with more than satisfactory results. Then I thought Dell's so far "acclaimed" PDA will somehow went the same direction, and selected it as replacement for my lost HP 1945 Pocket PC.

Terrible mistake.

Since the very first day, I've been unable to sync it via USB cable. I've managed to do it via bluetooth, but then it only can sync with my PC. Also, a month after i've purchased it, the power on/off switch started being defective, which leaded to a complete collapse of the PDA and a full replacement for a "brand new one" (Dell customer service still very good, must say) some weeks after. Since then , the "brand new" PDA keeps restarting every since and when as you turn it on, sometimes switchs off suddenly, drains battery in record time and constantly shuts off the Bluetooth port. Also, sometimes displays a message stating "battery latch has been opened! the system was put on a stand by condition to prevent data loss". Not to mention the fact that is probably the heaviest PDA available in the market, which is definitively a handicap when you spend the whole day in meetings changing places. Not to mention the craddle port, which seems made of cheap plastic and broke within a few months of use. Dell reliability reputation has going down the pan in this issue, and as far as i'm concerned, will sell this device as soon as i have an oportunity and probably purchase an HP or maybe give a try with a blackberry.

5 out of 5 stars Good but needs trueVGA   December 31, 2007
This item is great. My only complain it that the start menu bar and the bar at the bottom of the screen are too large. ozVGA and other trueVGA utilities fix this, though, though not entirely without new problems. I highly recommend it, though you might want to look at the other Pocket PC's that have the newer Intel processor.

These can be upgraded to have 128MB RAM, and you can even upgrade it to Windows Mobile 6, if you look hard enough.

4 out of 5 stars A nice handheld device   October 25, 2007

I like this hand held that I bought 2 years back and is working without any problem.. it is sleek, very light and fast.. Its big screen has good resolution and looks very beautiful... It takes both CF and SD cards and is fast enough to read them and do the copies between device, SD & CF card... I am using 1 GB CF and 2 GB SD card.
Its very easy to use... I love its WiFi feature and also the bluetooth connectivity with other devices..
I am very happy to have this product and will continue to use it in future too even if the newer versions may be faster as it solves the purpose.
I would recommend this product highly.

5 out of 5 stars Works excellent with GPRS   October 18, 2007
I have a Sony Ericcson W300 and it works great with the Internet GPRS connection using the Bluetooth.

The Axim is great, worth the price!
