5 out of 5 stars I uprgraded from Logitech's Music anywhere system   January 8, 2009
We are very happy with the X-Mod system... For the last two years I have been pumping music throughout our home with the Logitech Music anywhere system. At the time I bought the Logitech I was very satisfied until a few of its design flaws became apparent. Placement of the transmitter proved to be an issue; our audio system is in a closet in the basement and our computer is on the first floor almost directly above the closet below...approximately 10'-15' away. The system would frequently not link up. To resolve the issue I would have to shutdown both iTunes and the music anywhere software, then start up the Logitech software first and then try sometimes several times restarting iTunes to reset the connection. I eventually installed a network range expander in the basement to boost the signal...it improved the connection reliability to a more tolerable level. Another issue I found frustrating is that you can only connect to ONE Logitech receiver at a time, the system is designed to support up to four receivers per transmitter. We have three places that we that enjoy music in our home, the Kitchen, Basement and Outside by the Spa. We frequently entertain so having "music everywhere" is a desired requirement. I must admit I didn't read the fine print on the Logitech system I believed that the "Music anywhere" name told the whole story...when in fact, I should have been looking for a "Music EVERYWHERE" system. Beyond those two issues the system worked "as designed" and we enjoyed the system after we understood its limitations.
Enough about the Logitech...The X-Mod system answered all of the issues we were having the first system, I have yet to have ANY issues with connections or sound quality. I purchased a second transmitter and it hooked up and linked up without an issue. Another positive point is the "Xtreme Fidelity music enhancement" it DOES noticeably improve sound quality on my system. Good Luck!

5 out of 5 stars Works flawlessly--even with my 2.4GHz wireless network   November 29, 2008
I've had it for about a month and it works great. Opened the box, plugged in the USB cable and voila--music streaming wirelessly. It was really that easy. And it's much cheaper than a Sonos unit for ~$1,000, although I'm sure the Sonos product has it's advantages.

Also, my ATT U-Verse router is 2.4 GHz, but I do not notice any interference with the sound or my network. According to the documentation, it comes with a "sniffer" that finds an unused channel on the frequency, and it seems to work.

My only annoyance is that you can only play sound on your computer speakers OR the Xmod. But this is a Windows issue, not a defect of the product. It seems that Windows will only recognize one sound device at a time, so I've created a desktop shortcut to let me switch between the two. It's not a big deal.

Overall, I think it works exactly as advertised.

2 out of 5 stars It has potential... to screw up your wireless network   November 10, 2008

Bought the Wireless XMOD after I bought a new wireless router (DLink DIR-655). Wife's macbook could access the wireless network fine until I hooked up the XMOD.

Apparently the Creative Wireless interferes with other things in the 2.5ghz spectrum.

Called Creative. There is no way to disable the wireless feature. I even removed the wireless module from inside the XMOD and my system wouldn't recognize it any longer. Put the module back in and covered the XMOD with aluminum foil, hoping to create a sort of Faraday cage... Didn't help.

It's as good as garbage right now.

4 out of 5 stars Works on the sound bar, not on the MP3.   November 3, 2008
I was worried this wouldn't work with my new Philips Sound Bar - but no problem! I used the RCA jacks (red/white) on the back of the X-FI receiver. The volume isn't quite a high as normal on either the PC or the Sound Bar, but it's not a problem. Hook up was very simple. Now I have music upstairs and down - love it! My MP3 didn't work well at all on this, though. The music was very muted, as though it needed more power. I didn't really buy it for that purpose, so am not so disappointed.
